Jennifer Pafiti
PartnerJennifer Pafiti represents investors in complex securities litigation, in both class and individual actions. She is also the firm’s Head of Client Services and co-manages the Firm’s London office with Dr. Daniel Summerfield.
Jennifer was a key member of the team that won a historic $3 billion settlement for investors in litigation over a multibillion-dollar kickback and bribery scheme at Brazil’s largest oil company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras). It was the largest settlement ever in a securities class action involving a foreign issuer, the fifth-largest securities class action settlement ever achieved in the United States, the largest securities class action settlement achieved by a foreign lead plaintiff, and the largest securities class action settlement in history not involving a restatement of financial reports.
Jennifer also played a significant role in the firm’s securities class action against rare disease biopharmaceutical company KaloBios and its CEO, Martin Shkreli, leading to a settlement of $3 million, plus 300,000 shares, for defrauded investors in 2018, despite the company being in bankruptcy.
And she helped achieve a $10 million recovery for the class in a securities litigation against bankrupt Californian energy company PG&E, which arose from allegedly false statements made by the company about its rolling power outages in the wake of the catastrophic wildfire incidents that occurred in California in 2015, 2017, and 2018.
Jennifer regularly travels in the U.S. and Europe to advise institutional investor clients on how best to evaluate losses to their investment portfolios attributable to financial fraud or other misconduct, and how best to maximize their potential recoveries. Jennifer organizes many of the firm’s educational initiatives, including its popular series of Corporate Governance Roundtables. Jennifer is frequently invited to speak at events worldwide on securities litigation and fiduciary duty.
Jennifer oversees the firm’s proprietary, state-of-the-art PomTrack® portfolio monitoring system that safeguards over $9.5 trillion in assets for institutional investor clients. The service includes securities monitoring and evaluation of potential securities fraud claims; recommending litigation strategy; monitoring and evaluating the fairness of class action settlements in which institutional clients stand to participate; filing claims on behalf of clients in settlements, tracking claims filed, curing any deficiencies and auditing sums recovered.
Jennifer is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, where earlier in her career she practiced civil litigation and represented clients in high-profile cases in the Royal Courts of Justice. She previously was a regulated financial advisor and senior mortgage underwriter at a major U.K. financial institution. She holds full CeFA and CeMAP qualifications.
Jennifer is a member of the National Association of Pension Fund Attorneys and represents Pomerantz as a member of the California Association of Public Retirement Systems, California’s State Association of County Retirement Systems, the National Association of State Treasurers, the National Conference of Employee Retirement Systems, the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems, and the U.K.’s National Association of Pension Funds.
