Emma Gilmore and Murielle Steven Walsh Named as Trailblazers by the New York Law Journal
Pomerantz is proud to announce that Partners Emma Gilmore and Murielle Steven Walsh were named to the New York Law Journal’s annual list of Trailblazers for 2020. The list honors “a handful” of New York lawyers who are “truly agents of change.”
Emma was honored as a Trailblazer for her work in the Firm’s class action case in the Southern District of New York against Brazil’s largest oil company, Petrobras. From multi-million dollar kickbacks to the whistleblower who was threatened at gunpoint and the historic $3 billion settlement achieved by Pomerantz, you can read more about the trails blazed by Emma in her New York Law Journal profile as she took on the biggest instance of corruption in the history of Brazil that even ensnared the former president and one-third of the Brazilian Congress. This is not only the largest securities class action settlement in a decade but is the largest settlement ever in a class action involving a foreign issuer, the fifth-largest class action settlement ever achieved in the United States, and the largest settlement achieved by a foreign lead plaintiff.
In 2020, Emma was named by Benchmark Litigation as one of the Top 250 Women in Litigation — an honor bestowed on only seven plaintiffs’ lawyers in the U.S. this year. Also in 2020, the National Law Journal honored Emma as a “Plaintiffs’ Lawyer Trailblazer.” Emma was honored by Law360 in 2018 as an MVP in Securities Litigation, part of an “elite slate of attorneys [who] have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.” Only up to six attorneys nationwide are selected each year as MVPs in Securities Litigation. Emma is the first woman plaintiff attorney to receive this outstanding award since it was initiated in 2011. She has been recognized by Lawdragon as one of the top 500 Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyers in both 2019 and 2020 and as a Top-Rated Securities Litigation Attorney by SuperLawyer® in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Murielle was honored for her pioneering spirit in leading the Firm’s ground-breaking litigation arising from the popular Pokémon Go game and her trailblazing leadership in the high-profile securities class action against Wynn Resorts Ltd. In Murielle’s New York Law Journal profile, read more about her effort to hold Wynn accountable for the company’s concealment of a long-running pattern of alleged sexual misconduct by the company’s founder and former Chief Executive Officer, billionaire casino mogul Stephen Wynn and how it was game over for Pokémon Go once she took on the “augmented reality” gameplay that crossed over into real-world trespass.
In 2019 and 2020, Murielle was honored by Lawdragon as one of the top 500 Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyers in the U.S. In 2019 and 2020, she was also recognized by SuperLawyers® as a Top-Rated Securities Litigation Attorney in the New York Metro area, and as a 2018 Lawyer of Distinction, an honor bestowed upon less than 10% of attorneys in any given state. Murielle was also honored by the National Law Journal in 2020 as a “Plaintiffs’ Lawyer Trailblazer.”
