Pomerantz Selected by The National Law Journal as Finalist for Two 2023 Elite Trial Lawyers Awards; Partner Alex Hood Wins as a Rising Star of the Plaintiffs Bar
The National Law Journal has named Pomerantz LLP as a finalist in both the Class Action and Securities Litigation/Shareholders Rights categories of its 2023 Elite Trial Lawyers Awards. Partner J. Alexander Hood II (Alex) was honored as a winner of the Rising Stars of the Plaintiffs Bar award. Winners in all categories will be announced at the Elite Trial Lawyers award ceremony in New York City on July 13, 2023.
Alex, based in the Firm’s New York office, was recognized as an up-and-comer in the plaintiffs bar, already demonstrating his litigation prowess, service to the community, and impact on the Firm, despite his youth. He leads Pomerantz’s case origination team, spearheading new actions from the identification and investigation of violations of federal securities laws, to presenting arguments for Lead Plaintiff and Lead Counsel appointments. Alex plays a leading role in moving – and fighting – for Lead Plaintiff position for Pomerantz’s clients in virtually every securities litigation that the Firm files.
Alex is also a leading member of the Firm’s international matters team, in which Pomerantz partners with local counsel and third-party litigation funders to vindicate our clients’ rights in jurisdictions beyond our purview.
Alex currently advises Pomerantz’s clients with respect to securities matters in the UK, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, among other jurisdictions.
In the last year alone, Pomerantz earned numerous financial settlements for defrauded investors that far exceeded the average recovery for securities class actions. Beyond monetary relief, the Firm also made new law that expanded investor rights by securing precedent-setting decisions in its cases. The cases that Pomerantz pursues exemplify its commitment to holding corporations accountable for their actions, particularly in relation to ESG – environmental, social, and governance concerns. A settlement in a case against Deutsche Bank AG that arose from #MeToo related issues; the defeat of defendants’ motion to dismiss a SPAC-related securities litigation; a $90 million settlement on behalf of defrauded investors in tobacco giant, Altria; a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that set important precedents that significantly expand investor rights – these represent a mere fraction of Pomerantz’s impact.
Pomerantz’s historic $3 billion recovery for defrauded investors in Brazilian oil giant, Petrobras, remains, to this day, the largest securities class action settlement in over a decade.
